Tech
Is our mind and body able to work 24/7? Let’s have a think about that….
Is the world heading to burn out, I’d say we are already there. The work/life balance seems to be none existent unless you put it there. Some leaders of companies have seen that if they don’t make changes, their staffs health will deteriorate. However the majority still think its ok to email into the early hours of the morning and yes it is your choice to respond, however in a ping world its going to disturb you and even if you don’t reply the content on the email is now been processed by your brain.
Do you need to track your sleep? Does thinking about getting a better result really help. Or would better sleeping hygiene like no technology at least 90 minutes before bed, reducing lighting before bed, no tech in your bedroom, having an Epsom salt bath support better results. I think you know the answer to that one.
Socials where to start, has benefits as the world is isolated and lonely and there is a benefit of connection even though it will never compare real life, however its better then nothing. What is actually real? Do you think they show the bad parts or only the good? Do you look and are happy for people if their life is going well or does your brain do what it does best and thrive on negativity so it starts comparing, starts making you feel worthless, why is their life so perfect and mine isn’t. Do you think you get any benefit from just looking at peoples lives? Yes it’s your choice to use let them and if you have that mindset then great if you don’t its going to lead down a dark path.
Used to be 5 o’clock news, now its 24/7. Do you really need to know about things that will have no effect on your life, or so you think as your mind and body is absorbing this information and likely having a negative effect on you.
Let me guess somethings the first thing you do is check your phone, alarm goes off then you see a notification and there you go you are distracted and its got your attention. As well as taking your attention, it is also not natural light so you are not allowing your bodies rhythem to wake up in the best way for your mind and body. Then lets get on to night, busy scrolling, working, gaming the list goes on last thing at night, then can’t sleep as you’re trying to switch off your overstimulated mind.
Did you know that research states even having the phone in the room or even for children in their school bag your brain is still thinking about it and what is going to be on it next time you look at it. Sleeping with your phone in your room and I imagine having it with you all day, means your brain will never turn off from thinking about it. So you this leads to feeling more tired, I’m not saying everyone however it’s likely to lead to sugar, caffeine to keep you awake to live your life when simple changes/boundaries around tech could give you a better life.
Notifications!!! I don’t actually know what to say, yes I am sure people like to be in the know, however do we need to know everything. Is every email, most of them rubbish as you signed up for a discount and now you are emailed daily and then end up seeing things you don’t even need and then you’ve clicked and then you’re buying something you can’t afford. For my busy brain it distracts me from been present and my actual life is more important. If you understand your brain or having thoughts you may be differently wired then maybe some of this resonates. How many emails are unread? or if like me you can’t cope with unread then you keep on top of them either way unsubscribe! The next time you get an email that really has no benefit to you, take that 30 seconds and unsubscribe, overtime you will gain so much time back.
Please don’t think I am anti tech, as it is changing the world. However not always for the better and I am scared for the future generations if we don’t model and teach healthy habits.
As always if you try to fix it all at once, it’ll end up been overwhelming and you will revert back as you will see yourself as a failure as you can’t do it. So let’s try one thing at a time and aim for progress as there is no such thing as perfect and anyone who says there is, is lying!
Think about your relationship with it and as always I am here when you are ready to dedicate time for yourself and bring more joy and understanding of yourself to make the changes that last.
